Volunteers for Issaquah Schools Update

E-mail Print PDF

Thank you to all the voters who said YES, YES, YES to all three of our levies on February 9th!

Here’s a brief recap of the results:

Voter turnout: 40%
Maintenance and operations levy: 65.68%
Capital (critical repairs and technology) levy: 64.24%
Bus levy: 65.57%

Thank you to all of the community members, parents, staff, and students who worked on the VIS campaign!  This levy passed because of all of your hard work and dedication to our students and our schools.

VIS is an organization that exists even during non-levy and bond years and is always seeking volunteers and donations to prepare for the next campaign.

To continue to help, please go to www.visvote.org to donate and/or sign up to volunteer.

WA State PTA Board Opposes I-1033

E-mail Print PDF

The Washington State PTA Board of Directors is opposed to Initiative 1033, which would impose caps on state revenue and lock in job and service cuts caused by the economic downturn. To learn more about I-1033 visit the WA State PTA web site.

UPDATE: The I-1033 question can be difficult to find on the King County ballot.

The mail ballots in King County have the I-1033 ballot question tucked beneath the instructions in the first of three columns, instead of with the other ballot questions in the second and third columns. Click here to see an example.

King County made a $2 million profit from school districts in 2007. Let Olympia know what you think.

Message from Jake Kuper

ISD Chief of Finance & Operations:

We need your help today regarding SSB 5539 the Actual Expense bill relating to investments. We are facing a serious veto threat, driven by King County.

We now have confirmation that the Governor is focused on SSB 5539 and she is reviewing some of the emails that school districts and counties are sending to her and Marty Brown. For more background information regarding SSB 5539, please see the attached May 1st letter from me on behalf of the School Investment Coalition.

Again, we would like you to email the Governor and Marty Brown or to call the Governor's office before Tuesday, May 19th. You can send the email any time. King County and the Washington Association of County Officials have made a strong veto request, and the school districts need to respond. Marty Brown is the Director of Legislative Affair, Office of the Governor.
